HAPPY FATHERS’ DAY, all you daddies out there!
Be strong for your families, whether it be biological, sociological, ecclesiastical (church), and/or through work.
Like last week’s post, today’s poem relates to the day being celebrated. If you can show me a father who has not struggled with God in some way, I would truly be amazed.
May we all hold out for God’s blessing.
Israel (Struggles with God)
I am Israel
I do not always like what God tells me
I do not always want to listen
I struggle with His commands
I ask for a way out
I look for other options
I plead with God for another path
I also accept His Word
I know it is good
I argue with God
I know He will bless me
I will keep going until He does

I needed this today. I have 4 children via miscarriage who I will one day “meet” in heaven by God’s grace, but sometimes, well always, Father’s Day is bittersweet to me. Yet God our Father is so very good. Always. And seeing my dad for his 90th yesterday was so wonderful yet it reminded me starkly of the brevity of life. My mother would have been 90 this year too but passed onward to God’s arms at age 69, in 1991.
In the short time we have connected on the blogosphere, God has so often used you to give me a word when I need it. Maybe, had a male of those 4 lived on this earth, he would have turned out like you. I hope so.

It seems we both are a bit of a Barnabas! Priase God that we can be blessed so.
Last weekend we were in Chicago to see some of her family and go to the memorial for her great-Aunt Vicki who was 90. This past weekend was the “family reunion” to celebrate the 50th Anniversary for another great-Uncle and Aunt of hers, and we discovered there were five couples there who had celebrated 50 years together in the past few years (or even months) and those who had lost loved ones recently (her grandmother was there, who had celebrated 50 years a few years ago and lost her husband two years ago tomorrow (18th)).
I am also blessed to be able to write this response as I sit in my parents living room. We will have a family dinner and go to church together.
Happy Father’s Day to you, dear brother. I am confident you will meet your children one day!

As long as it is not Barnabas Collins…Sounds like you have had a meaningful time in your travels, and have ministered to many along the way. I believe Barnabas is one of the few people the Bible speaks of as a “good man.” And that you are…God bless.

It is interesting to think that the trip began with a new marriage, two marriages celebrating anniversaries together (my parents’ 29th and our 3rd), and it ends with the celebration of a 50th Anniversary. It was also revealed later that on the day many of us were celebrating the life of a wonderfual woman who has passed she became a great-great-aunt. One of my wife’s cousins had had her first child last Sunday.
In other words, this trip glorified marriage and life!
Which is also why it is good it is not Barnabas Collins! (I confess to not having seen the movie, yet, just because I watched “Dark Shadows” – yes, as re-runs on PBS – and I have wondered at how well they could transfer the show to the Big Screen … and with Johnny Depp)
Lastly, every time someone mentions the word “good” I think of Jesus’ words: “Why do you call me good? No one is good but God alone.” (Mark 10:18; Luke 18:19)
Fortunately, my argument around that is that He lives in us making us good!
