Build Your Kingdom Here

Learn the wisdom of the Kingdom by reading some thoughts at Proverbial Thought.

I am on a role with these song-inspired posts, as of late, so here is another.

The Kingdom of God Is Near

Prayer is certainly important in the life of a Christian, as discussed last week.

Jesus taught us to pray:

“Our Father in heaven,
hallowed be your name,
your kingdom come,
your will be done,
    on earth as it is in heaven.
Give us today our daily bread.
And forgive us our debts,
    as we also have forgiven our debtors.
And lead us not into temptation
    but deliver us from the evil one.”
Matthew 6:9-13, NIV

Perhaps the reason we fail to see revival and change in our society is because we do not really pray for “Your Kingdom come, Your will be done, on earth as it is in heaven.”

Sure, we say the words, but how often do we mean it?

A chapter earlier, Jesus says:

“You are the salt of the earth. But if the salt loses its saltiness, how can it be made salty again? It is no longer good for anything, except to be thrown out and trampled underfoot.

“You are the light of the world. A town built on a hill cannot be hidden. Neither do people light a lamp and put it under a bowl. Instead they put it on its stand, and it gives light to everyone in the house. In the same way, let your light shine before others, that they may see your good deeds and glorify your Father in heaven.“
Matthew 5:13-16, NIV

Perhaps we do not see revival and change in our society, because we have not really asked our Father to change us through His Holy Spirit to be His salt and light in our world. We have a tendency to think God will just change all of their hearts without our intervention.

I could go on and on, but I think the Rend Collective Experiment sang it out best in this prayer to song:

Revival Starts with Me …

I offer another reminder to seek wisdom through the writings at Proverbial Thought.

Last week I did something I have not done in a while: I posted a song that gets me thinking.

I have written before about the importance of prayer, because it is so vital to the life of a Christian.

We wonder why we have no power over circumstances.

We wonder why we do not see miracles.

We wonder why we struggle.

We wonder why revival never comes to our community …

… and if it does, why does it not last?

As Tim Timmons sings, it is because we are not fulfilling our part. Usually, we are trying to do too much and missing the vital first step!

All I Can Do Is Say …

Show your thankfulness to God for His wisdom by getting some wisdom at Proverbial Thought.

My wife has been working on me since she has known me to be more thankful.

This simply means that after someone has offered to do something for me, has done something for me, has offered advice to me, has been friendly to me … really just about anything nice to or for me, I should say “Thank you!”

It is a struggle for me, because I am the kind of person who is satisfied to see a smile or a child run off with their new toy or hear a contented sigh to know that someone is thankful for my service, words, or thoughts.

I have to admit, however, that perhaps we see so many problems in our society because of a lack of thankfulness – between each other and to God.

That is the real rub of things.

Let the peace of Christ rule in your hearts, since as members of one body you were called to peace. And be thankful.
Colossians 3:15, NIV

Instead, be filled with the Spirit, speaking to one another with psalms, hymns, and songs from the Spirit. Sing and make music from your heart to the Lord, always giving thanks to God the Father for everything, in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ.
Ephesians 5:18b-20, NIV

I particularly like the Mikeschair words it:

It’s Christmas! Born Is the King!

Be sure to see the thoughts on Proverbs today over at Proverbial Thought!

In our world today is much pain and sadness. Whether it is from the loss of a child, sibling, parent, grandparent, husband, wife, or friend; the pain of divorce; the shame of losing everything; the misery of an illness; or any other unhappy and unjust circumstance, there are plenty of people who find today another reminder of their loss and suffering.

We must remember all those who see sadness at Christmas. We must pray for them, sit and talk with them (usually listening), and offer our encouragement.

We must also remember that giving our God praise in all things can help us with … anything, really. It is amazing how our spirits can be lifted, our health can feel better, and our overall demeanor can improve.

Therefore, on this Christmas Day, we remember One has come who was born King of the Jews … and of all Creation!

In Dependence Day

Happy Birthday, United States of America!

I realized I have not posted a song in a while that I enjoy. I think this one is a good one for today.

The only way to truly have freedom in this life is to surrender to our Lord and Savior (Galatians 5:1).

Until then we are merely slaves to our own desires and sinfulness, and only through the Cross can we attain freedom and righteousness (Romans 6).

Remember on this day of celebration of freedom from tyranny (or whenever you celebrate freedom in some way) that it is only through the Lord Jesus Christ that we truly experience freedom.

It does not come through physical war. It does not come through destroying buildings or cities. It does not come through protests. It does not come through fighting or arguing.

It only comes through faith in the saving work of Jesus Christ through His death on the Cross and resurrection from the grave.

Happy birthday, United States of America! Happy Re-birthday, all who have found freedom in Christ!

Shout to the Lord

I was listening to the radio this morning, and a version of a song that has played during many important times in my life played. When I first knelt down (literally) before God, each time (three major instances) I committed my life to God, the moment I heard His calling on my life, and several other times something major was happening in my life, this song was playing.

I thought I would share the lyrics with you today!
